Oprah Winfrey And Stedham Graham have been in a relationship for over 30 years now and while there relationship might be a unconventional, it is definitely strong.
Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham met for the first time back in in 1986. Was also the year her popular talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show” began.
When they met, she learnt that Stedham already had a daughter and had once been married before.
This is How Oprah Winfrey And Stedham Graham Met
The first time they met, Oprah liked that he seemed like a really nice guy, but, she wasn’t particularly impressed by him other than that.
She recalled him being very kind and courteous. But thought he was too handsome. She was so certain he would be a player, so did every one close to her:
She was specifically warned not to get involved with him because people were certain things would only end badly for her.
She decided to become just friends with him, b it even with that, she threaded with a lot of caution.
Months later, she learnt that he had broken up with his girlfriend and was making some serious inquiries about her present dating life. That was when she decided to give him a try.
Oprah had also revealed that Graham is not only very special but that he’s not the least bit intimidated by her and all the things she has achieved.
she revealed to ET during an interview,
”He says to me all the time, ‘Look, I want you to be president… you want to be president? Run for president, I’ll work on the campaign.’ So, I’m very grateful to have somebody like that, who doesn’t want to be in the limelight with me, isn’t trying– when you walk into the room, isn’t looking for all the cameras. And, so, I don’t know what will happen.”
Graham Asked Winfrey To Marry Him
In 1992, 6 years after they met, Graham asked Oprah Winfrey to marry him.
According to Oprah, it was a very casual proposal.
Why she had accepted his proposal, she found out later that she did not really want to get married. Not to him or anyone for that matter.
It’s been over 20 years since they got engaged and they’re still yet to tie the knot with each other.
“The moment he asked me to marry him, I was like ‘Oh, God! Now I actually have to get married?’”. “But what I realized is, I don’t want to be married. Because I could not have the life that I created for myself … I knew that I couldn’t do it.”
Oprah Winfrey Once Considered Having Children
Winfrey also went on to say that at one point in her life, she had even considered having children. But then she realized she genuinely did not have the real time and energy to focus on being a mother.
Being a mother was a full time job and she already had a full time job.
In her own words, she said
“I realized, ‘Whoa, I’m talking to a lot of messed-up people, and they are messed up because they had mothers and fathers who were not aware of how serious that job is,’”
“I don’t have the ability to compartmentalize the way I see other women do. It is why, throughout my years, I have had the highest regard for women who choose to be at home [with] their kids, because I don’t know how you do that all day long. Nobody gives women the credit they deserve.”
She admits that she refused to become a mother because she was certain she would not be a good one and that wasn’t fair on the innocent children she would bring into the world.
Her story is definitely different and very unconventional but the most important thing is that it works for her.
