Keeping Up With The Kosoko’s (Simi And Adekunle Gold)

The two music stars will make your skin tingle with excitement. They are one of the most popular love birds in the Nigerian music industry.

Recall that Simi used to be paired with Falz as her lover because of the great chemistry the two had when they featured in each other’s music. Even when Adekunle came out to talk about their relationship, everybody felt Falz was betrayed and hurt. But was that the case? The two never had anything to with each other romantically.

According to an interview Simi had with Punch Newspaper, she and Adekunle Gold met in 2013 when she performed for a show in Bogobiri, Ikoyi. Adekunle approached her and said he has been a fan of her since when she was a gospel singer. He had been chasing her all over Facebook before meeting her. From there, they became friends.

Who Is Simi?

Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye Kosoko is a Nigerian Singer, songwriter and actress. She is a brand ambassador for companies like Glo, DSTV, Etisalat, Opera and many more. She was born on the 19th of April, 1988, in Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos State. She studied Mass Communication at Covenant University, Ota. The Duduke singer didn’t start with secular music. She grew up dancing and singing for her local church. She was a gospel musician and her debut album was titled Ogaju. It was released in 2008 and the album had amazing songs like ‘Iya Temi’ and ‘Ara Ile’.

Simi’s Walk Into The limelight

She became famous in 2014 when she signed a record deal with X3M Music. There, she released her first secular music ‘Tiff’ and the song was so big that it was nominated as best alternative song in The Headies 2015. Simi spent 5 years in the record label and left in May 2019 following the expiration of her contract. Before leaving, she released two albums, ‘Simisola‘ on September 8th 2017 which was her second studio album after Ogaju in 2008. In April 2019, she released her third studio album “Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol 1′. It was released as a way for her to celebrate her 31st birthday. After leaving her record label in May, she went ahead to open hers, ‘Studio Brats’ in June of the same year. She sings Afro-pop, soul, RnB, and Alt-rock. 

Simi is well known for her versatility. Her sweet soothing voice can calm anyone down. Her lyrics always have a meaning and it’s most times impactful.

Who Is Adekunle Gold?

Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko aka Adekunle Gold or AG Baby is a professional singer, songwriter and graphics designer. He was born on the 28th of January, 1987 into the Kosoko Royal family of Lagos State, Nigeria. He was widely recognised for music after singing ‘Sade’, a highlife cover for the One Direction song, ‘Story Of My life’.  

Adekunle was already popular for editing pictures and photoshopping. He was nicknamed, The king of Photoshop. The Orente singer got signed into the YBNL record label. A record created and Managed by Olamide Badoo. He released his first studio album, Gold, in 2015 and it debuted at number 7 on the Billboard World Chart. The album had mind-blowing songs like Orente, Sade, and Pick up. 

In an interview with Nigeria Entertainment Today, Adekunle revealed that he was the one who designed the present YBNL Logo.

In 2017, Adekunle left YBNL. In an interview with Planet TV, AG Baby said that every YBNL Artist has a two-year contract and after that, they were free to leave or stay. He decided to leave. 

Letting The Cat Out Of The Bag, Marriage And Childbirth

While everyone was thinking that something was going on between Falz and Simi we didn’t know we were focusing on the wrong pair. We were all taken by surprise. 

Simi and Adekunle kept their 5 years relationship a secret from the media. They got engaged in 2018 and finally tied the knot in January 2019. He disclosed his marriage to his fans in a note he sent to them through email.

The wedding ceremony was so private that few pictures were taken.  Simi went off social media and while her fans thought she was just taking a break, they never knew she was planning her wedding. 

They had their wedding on the 9th of January, 2019 at the Ilashe beach. It was a private wedding that had just about 300 guests including family members of the couple. 

They released excerpts and clips from their wedding in their collaborative music video, ‘Promise’. 

On April 16, 2020, Simi sang her hit song, Duduke revealing her big stomach. She was trying to pass a message that she was pregnant.

After a year and a few months, Simi gave birth to their first child, a baby girl, Deja, Adejara Kosoko on the 30th of May 2020. 

A relationship can never be perfect in the eyes of the public. They will always find a way to pour sand on your white. That’s one of the reasons why Simi and Adekunle kept their relationship from the media and the public. Even after keeping it a secret, people still had their ways of bringing out new stories.

Simi and Falz. 

When Fans saw that Simi got married to AG, some started saying that they kept their marriage a secret because Simi was cheating on Falz.  The two have Sang songs together like,  Chemistry, Soldier, Foreign, Jamb question and many more but they were just friends and colleagues.

Did they ever tell you they were in a relationship? They only Sang songs together. Simi explaining her own side of the story to Ndani TV’s The Juice, said that she did not stop the rumours of her and Falz because it was selling. She said,

“Most of the songs we were doing were really goofy. We were not trying to be sexy or sexual. We were just vibing and people were attracted to it.

We never said that we were dating but at the end of the day, it was selling the music. I was in a relationship at the time so I definitely was carrying my man along and he knew that it was the game. Now, they are closer. They don’t even talk to me.”

Adekunle was not left out in the drama from the media.

AG Baby’s Relationship With Video Vixen

In 2021, the controversial blog, Gistlover decided to wake up and choose the path of violence.  He accused Adekunle Gold of cheating on Simi while she was still pregnant with his video vixen, Teminikan. 

Simi never reacted to it and remained unbothered. A source from GIstlover said it was because she already knew about her husband’s scandal because he slept with people in Simi’s circle. 

Even after the whole scandal, the two have been standing tall and showing their love everywhere. They even tweet to themselves on social media as if they are not living in the same house. This makes a lot of people lament ‘God When.’ 

One time, Adekunle thought his wife blocked him on Instagram, he went to their WhatsApp to threaten her that he was going to pour mineral on their marriage certificate. Simi took it to her Instagram story and laughed about it. 

The couples have had their setbacks just like every relationship will have. We are glad they could handle their things quietly and out of the public.
