Afrobeats Singer Tiwa Savage On Friday, 16th Of July bagged a doctorate degree at the University of Kent and she has everyone inspired by her emotional speech.
She also previously already bagged an Accounting degree from Kent. She is also a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts.
During the Ceremony, she took to the podium to share some of her struggles as a growing child in the United Kingdom after moving from Nigeria.
She opened up about her the challenges she faced as an immigrant in the UK while delivering her acceptance speech.
In a video shared by her colleague, Bankulli Osha, via his Instagram page on Friday, Tiwa was seen addressing the audience, dressed in academic robes.
She also spoke about the bullying she had to face in school and was even suspended several times amongst other things.
She also ran away from home a few times.
“I failed at a lot of things actually,” she said. “I was bullied at school severely when I moved to the UK, I ran away from home a few times, I was suspended a few times from school.”
Indirectly referencing her sex tape scandal, the Afrobeats crooner said,
“I’ve been globally ridiculed a couple of times, I’m not going to say what it is but it rhymes with ‘cape’. The irony.
“I also failed Principles of Finance at this very university when I was graduating.”
However, she continued, despite all of the challenges that came her way, she has successfully made a name for herself as a “leading figure” in the Afrobeats space.
The “Somebody’s Son” singer also stated that a lot of people refer to her as “Queen” but going forward, it’s “Dr Savage from now on”.
