Are you playing to bend the knee already? Are you planning to say yes, now? Great! Marriage is the logical next thing once you find that amazing person that fills your stomach with butterflies. But wait. Hold on. Marriage isn’t an affair of whims and emotions, so before you think of the ring and the isle, here are five conversations you must have.
1. Where will you live
This seems like an obvious guess. But it is pretty important. Because of the difference in life experience, chances are that your idea house differs from that of your partner. So sit down and talk things out. How many bedroom apartments do you want? What can you two afford?
If you live in Lagos and Abuja where housing is crazy and over the rooftops, you might want to sit down longer to plan what area exactly you would love to settle in.
2. Who does what?
As a young couple, you should do things differently. Frankly, there are little to no predefined roles anymore. Guys cook as much as ladies provide in the home. So rub minds together to determine what your individual roles will be in marriage.
3. Rules and regulations
This doesn’t reflect the YES/NO check boards no. This is just a list of unmentioned codes of conduct that you two will abide by. Shoes or no shoes in the house? Can a friend come to visit on day X time Y? And any other thing you feel needs to be talked about.
4. Future plans
The essence of marriage is to have a future you two are well pleased with so sit down and talk about that future. Do you two find ambiance in what you want individually and collectively? How can you two help each other to get better?
5. Your reconciliation booth
You two will fight eventually. And that is just normal. Couples are meant to fight. It is what will make you two understand each other better. So talk about your reconciliation process. Do you talk through your differences or involve a third party? Make this decision well ahead of time.
It saves you a lot of bad blood.
You have successfully made it to the end of the post! Great!
See you in the next relationship post.
Adios, Amigo!
