In November 2014, Styles and his bandmate Liam Payne participated in an interview with On Demand Entertainment to promote their fourth studio album. When asked about their favorite traits in a girl, Payne joked that “female” was a good trait. Styles laughed and said it wasn’t that important to him, instead looking for someone who’s natural, has a sense of humor, and is nice.

During a show in Los Angeles, Styles spotted a fan’s sign that read “I’m gay and I love you.” Laughing, he responded, “I mean, we’re all a little bit gay, aren’t we?” Although it was likely just a joke, some fans took it as a sign that he was at least open-minded about his sexuality.
