How Peter Obi Met His Wife Margaret Obi

Peter Obi is slowly becoming Nigeria’s favorite politician and easily the man on everybody’s lips.

His outstanding political career, business and humanitarian services has gained him a well deserved prominence.

However, let’s not forget that behind every successful Man is an equally successful woman.

Peter Obi has been married to his wife Margaret Brownson Obi for 30 years now, way before he got his national prominence and things seem to still be going very well.

How Did Peter Obi And Margaret Obi Meet?

Peter Obi revealed that his and his wife met through a mutual friend and were attracted to each other. At the time, they were both ready to settle down so it did not take long for them to tie the knots.

Peter Obi and his wife got married in London in a small intimate wedding of only 50 guests.  At the time of his wedding, he was a young struggling man and was trying to establish himself and his businesses.

While Peter Obi rarely talks about his family life, he once revealed that his wife loves life and has a more bubbly personality compared to him.

Infact, he revealed that they are both polar opposites.

Who is Margaret Obi?

Margaret Obi is famously known to be Peter Obi’a wife but she is much more than that.

She is a  women’s rights activist. She saw to the creation of family courts in the state’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Development (MWAPD) which is aimed at dealing with issues involving the abuse of children and the violation of women’s rights; especially widows ensuring they inherit their deceased husband’s properties.

She is also undoubtedly the brain behind her husband’s National Gender Affirmative Action which is aimed at making sure women earned  a seat during his period as an Anambra State governor.

Peter Obi And Margaret Obi’s Marriage Controversy

In 2017, rumors started to swirl loudly that the former governor and his wife had gone their separate ways.

Margaret completely debunked those rumors. She even described it as the height of wickedness by people to spread such rumors.

During an interview with the Newsmen In Lagos, she said that as soon as she came out from Church Sunday after worshipping at Our Lady of Assumption, Ikoyi with her husband, on switching on her phone, she received an avalanche of text messages from concerned Nigerians about her supposed divorce proceedings against her husband.

Margaret Obi spills that she is a very happy wife and that she would never even remotely think of leaving or divorcing her husband.

In her own words,

“Why should I think along that line when I have no problem with my husband? I am happily married and have no reason to contemplate divorce,” she said.

Peter Obi and  Margaret Obi have two kids together, a boy and girl named respectively Gregory Peter Oseloka Obi and Gabriella Nwanoka Francis Obi.

This is the only controversy that has even been directed their ways and it was cleared and debunked with the speed of lightening. I guess there are people who will always seek to tear apart something great and wonderful.

These two prove that marriages can last long if you are with the right person. We hope that they continue to grow and glow in their love for each other.
