A divorce is one of the most common forms of single parenthood. When two people who initially got married decide that they want to go their separate ways, they automatically become single parent.
The children most times will alternate between living with both parents. That action on its own is a feature of single parenthood.
While the parent might even maintain a cordial relationship with each other, they do not often make joint decisions for their kids and might even have peculiar way of handling issues that concern their children.
Unintended Pregnancies
Yes! This is a very popular way of becoming a single parent. Sometimes, after unprotected sex, it could lead to an unwanted pregnancy.
A lot of people are not ready to have children but unfortunately they have no option but to carry the pregnancies and take care of their babies.
This is especially true for people who are against abortion.
Sometimes too, a mother might abandon her child after delivery and Vice versa because she is not emotionally or financially ready to handle that responsibility.
The baby is then left in the hands of one of the parent, This leads to a single parenthood.
Free will
Believe it or not, some single people intentionally get pregnancy and have babies because they want to. Some people genuinely want children but unfortunately do not have a relationship or marriage to foster it.
They then take initiatives by getting pregnant just for the sole aim of having their own child.
This is also where surrogacy is rampant.
Adoption
This is similar to free will except that people do not mind carrying the baby or involving a surrogate.
They look for children which no parents who need help and take them in to cater for them.
Sometimes, they adopt more than one person and are both physically and emotionally present for them in the way that their real parent should have been.
This is not a very popular way of single parenthood, but it is indulged in by people.
Most people involved in adoption processes lead comfortable lives and then they seek for children that they can share in their comfort and luxury with.
