Why Successful Women Threaten Nigerian Men – Funke Akindele And JJC Skillz Seperation

It is no longer news that Funke Akindele and JJC Skills are currently separated. The pair have unfortunately parted ways and we are yet to figure out if it’s for good or if it’s just temporary .

While they’ve both  been dealing with  the aftermath of their very public separation, a lot of Nigerians have hopped on the current publicity and have generously shared their own ideas on the possible cause of their marriage ending.

The most popular speculations being that Funke was more successful and richer  than her husband and that contributed in making their marriage system fail.

A lot of Nigerians, Nigerian males especially naturally believe that the less income a woman makes, the more respect she has  for her husband and that in turn, it will translate to a happy marriage.

Here’s what I’ve figured out; Nigerian men love women who they can control and can answer to them at any point, this is why the idea of a woman being more successful than they are is such a frightening prospect.

I believe a huge part of the reason they want those kind of females in their lives is because they can endure.

Endurance is a huge pro in marriage for a lot of  Nigerian men.

Women are supposed to endure.

Endure emotional abuse. Physical abuse. Cheating and all the likes. A test of a good wife is a wife who can endure.

What they don’t know is that a majority of women who endure in marriages also do that because they do not have any other alternative. Some of them are dependent on their husbands and if separated will not be able to fully provide for themselves and their kids, so they cling on to their marriages even when everything is falling apart.

When you are successful  and you have been able to attain a certain level of influence like Funke Akindele has, it’s natural to be less entertaining of any form of abuse in a marriage.

Maybe that is exactly what happened with Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz.

Let’s recall that before their separation was announced, they have lots of online attacks aimed at Funke by JJC Skillz’s ex wife and their son. They took to their instagram to write and say a lot of negative things about Funke Akindele. They even went as far as comparing  her to a sadist who is always bitter and unhappy.

On the receiving end of such intense backlash, it can become difficult for anybody to keep stomaching.

Maybe  Funke Akindele got fed up.

JJC Skillz also mentioned in his instagram post when he announced their separation that they have both been trying for some years to fix their relationships but all efforts proved abortive. Funke also mentioned just recently on her instagram story with the words “if it no longer makes sense, drop it”.  Their is  a strong possibility she is referring to her broken marriage.

Sometimes, there are things and situations in our life that are broken beyond repair. It is okay to walk away from it. The worst thing you can do to yourself as a human is being untrue to yourself.

Maybe, just maybe, Funke Akindele decided to walk away from her marriage after all efforts to make it work seemed abortive.

This time around, she has an edge over a lot of women who might want to be separated from their husbands but cannot.

This is because she is rich, successful and famous. She can comfortably take care of herself and her kids, and better still she can get into another relationship, thanks to her celebrity status.

This is an opportunity a lot of women in marriages do not have.

Let’s recall that Funke Akindele is one of Nigeria’s most successful comedy actress. Her 2020  movie Omo Ghetto is sti currently the highest grossing move of all time in Nigeria. She has also made worldwide fame for herself thanks to one of Nigeria’s most popular TV shows which she produced and starred in Jenifa’s diaries, making hundred of millions from the movie productions.

She also recently got an invitation to join the Oscar award. This is a massive deal not just for her but for Nigeria in general too.

In every sense of the world, Funke Akindele is a fiercely independent woman and that can be threaten most Nigerian men.

We would never really be able to know why went wrong is their marriage except we are told directly but a good angle to look at will be angle of a woman, successful, liberated, exposed who is content enough in her life to be done with a marriage that does not serve her anymore.

Marriage is a lot of work and it only takes the strong to survive it, but it is important you realize when you are fighting for your marriage to work or when it is now a fight between you and your partner. There are moments when the best thing to do is to take a deep breath and walk away.

Remember it is always  better to leave a marriage whole and happy than to be in one completely depressed.
