Pastor Sam Adeyemi started off by reading the book of Matthew 5 Vs 43 – 48. The verses stated that we should love enemies and even pray for them.
Verse 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
Verse 48 also urges believers to be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect. He stated that love is a subject that must be taught but he was going to emphasize more on doing it.
Giving
Pastor Sam said that the first act of love is giving. He backed this statement by quoting the Bible verse, John 3 Vs 16. For God so loved the world that he ‘gave’ his only begotten son.
To love is to recognize the value in someone. When you love God, you begin to see his value. You begin to see why you need him and why he is so important to you. God love us and recognises his value in us and that’s why he gave us his only begotten son. He wanted to bridge the gap between where we were as sinners and our potential as the righteousness of God.
The Second Act Of Love Is Forgiveness
Forgiveness is like cancelling a debt but in this case, it is an emotional debt. To forgive is to drop resentment against someone.
Who Should You Forgive?
This was answered in Matthew 22 verses 37-40 which had the first and second commandments stating that we should love God and we should love our neighbours. In Matthew 5, Jesus tells us to love everyone including those who hate us and persecute us. Pastor Sam says that in our relationship with people, their actions should not change our nature
