The Story of Nicki Minaj and Her Husband Kenny Petty

Nicki Minaj took us by surprise when she said she was going to marry Kenny. It was out of the blue for some of us but some people claimed they saw it coming. The supposed husband is a registered sex offender so trust me when I say she got a lot of backlash for defending a sex offender and even planning to marry him. 

The undisputed rapper icon from New York stated that she met her husband before she was famous. She met him at 14 and she was in high school but they started dating in 2018.

They were also news that they dated as teenagers cause the both of them grew up in Queens New York. In 1995, Kenny was convicted of first degree attempted rape and he pleaded guilty in 2006 to first-degree manslaughter. Her fans expressed shock after her dating news and she explained to them that Ken had always loved her even before her fame. She said,

 “Facts but we were like this about each other since we were very young kids in the hood. He was on my body b4 the big ol’ booty. B4 the fame & fortune. Fought my bf cuz I wouldn’t be his girl. He was always a lil brazy. But anyway, timing is everything”.

The Grammy nominee first showed off her lover Kenny on her Instagram for her 36th birthday. She captioned it from the lyrics of Adele’s ‘Hello’.

“Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happens?… it’s no secret… that the both of us… are running out of time,”

Before settling down with Kenny, she had her past relationships where she mostly dated popular rappers like her. 

Nicki Minaj’s Past Relationships

Nicki and Safaree

Nicki was famously in a long-term relationship with producer and Love & Hip Hop, New York star Safaree “SB” Samuels. She and Safaree were in a solid relationship for 12 years. Nicki was more private about their relationship, but as they began to draw to a close, they became a little public. 

The two called it off in 2014. They both accused each other of cheating, lying and stealing in a public spat on Twitter.

Nicki and Meek Mill

Nicki was very open with her relationship this time. Although at first she always denied they were in a relationship and said they were just close friends. Meek Mill, the American rapper, finally told us in an Instagram post that Nicki was his woman. He captioned

“Find a woman that you think is strong enough 2 help you take over the world! #richatheartandatpocket #imlucky.”

After Meek Mill came out about their relationship, the both of them became really open about it. One time, Nicki posted a massive diamond ring on her finger that the rapper had gotten for her. This sparked rumours that the two were engaged.

In an interview with Nylon in a March 2016 cover story, Nicki said they were not engaged and they were taking things a step at a time. 

“I’m not engaged yet… We’re just taking it one step at a time. And, you know, if that happens, if I get married, then I’ll have a child, and that’ll be fun, because I can’t wait to hold my baby,”

Two years after Meek Mill called her his Girl, Nicki posted that she was a single woman meaning they had broken up. 

Nicki And Nas

Nicki never really came out about her relationship with the New York rapper Nas. A few months after she broke up with Mill, she reportedly started dating Nas. When asked on The Ellen Show about Nas, she smiled sheepishly and said they both were just enjoying sleepovers.

They were also seen together in public and Nicki was at Nas’s 44th birthday. 

They started dating sometime in September 2017 and broke up in January 2018.

Nicki And Drake

After Nas, there were rumours that she was dating the Canadian rapper Drake. This is unofficial. They never came out to say they were dating but they had pictures that made people think so. Although Drake has always said he was interested in the ‘Chun Li’ rapper, Nicki has referred to him as family

Nicki And Eminem

This is equally unofficial. When Nicki was asked if she was dating Eminem, she replied with a yes saying their first date will be in the studio. Since then, the two have been teasing their fans about dating and not dating.

Nicki and Kenneth Petty

Kenny is now her last bus stop as both of them are married now with a child. Even after her fans begged her not to marry a sex offender, she told them they can’t run her life and some of them can’t even run theirs.

Married At Last

On October 22, 2019, Nicki went public about her marriage saying they tied the knot the day before, on a Monday, October 21.

Things were quiet from both their ends for almost a year then on July 20, 2020, Nicki broke the internet with her baby bump pictures.

Finally a child at last. If you’ve been a huge fan of Nicki you’ll know that she had always wanted a child. Back in 2014 while speaking to Vogue Italia, she said, 

“I have given myself a time limit to take my professional satisfaction,” she said at the time. “I do not want to work all my life and never experience the joys of a family. It is not time yet, but when I decide to get married and become a mother I would like to take a break and devote myself completely to my child.”

Nicki had her child on the 30th of September 2020. She gave birth successful but the face of the child from the media. She only gave us a glimpse by showing us his foot in October.

She later revealed her son’s face when he was 3 months old.

Her fans, Barbs call him Simba, she calls him Papa Bear.

Nicki And Kenny (Partners In Crime)

With Kenny, she has been involved in a legal case. In August 2021, both Petty and Nicki were sued by Petty’s victim from the ’90s, a woman named Jennifer Hough, in civil court. 

Hough alleged in the lawsuit that Minaj and her associates offered her money to take back her story after Petty was arrested in 2020 and when she refused, she and her family suffered harassing calls and unwelcome visits. She claimed that Nicki’s Lawyers offered her brother $500,000 for her to change her story but he declined too.

After rejecting one last bribe of $20,000, Hough feared for her safety so she was forced to move out from her house in August 2020.

In January 2022, Nicki was dropped from the case but the case is still going on from Kenny Petty’s end.

You know the saying, ‘show me your friend and I’ll tell you who you are?’ it works. Either the person rubs off on you negatively or positively. As soon as Nicki got Married to Kenny, she got her hands dirty in crime.  If you are willing to go that Extra miles for someone, it’s fine, your cross to carry.  I’m just going to end with this, be wise. The duo are still ‘happily’ married with their son and I can say they are doing fine.
