Together, they navigate the intricate balance of their household, which includes their delightful 4-year-old daughter Kaavia, as well as Wade’s three children from previous relationships—Zaire (21), Zaya (15), and Xavier (9).
Reflecting on their financial arrangement, Union expressed her thoughts in a Bloomberg Originals video released on May 8.
She candidly admitted, “It’s weird to say I’m the head of the household because, in this household, we split everything 50/50.” However, Union acknowledges the inherent challenges that come with supporting multiple households, emphasizing the weight that responsibility carries.
She acknowledged the constant pressure to work diligently, recognizing that the well-being of their extended family is intricately tied to their individual efforts. “But in the other households that each of us have to support, there’s always this gorilla on your back that is like, ‘You better work! You better work! You want to sleep in? Somebody might not eat.’ And it’s hard. It’s hard to let that go, so I’m working on that,” Union revealed.
Indeed, Union’s determination to provide for her family is a driving force in her life.
The actress acknowledged the heightened level of responsibility she feels regarding her finances, explaining,
“I have more responsibilities for my money…I get nervous. Like, ‘Oh god, that movie didn’t open. Well, what does that mean? Am I going to have enough to hold everybody up?’…I’m trying to find peace in the journey, not using my anxiety and scarcity mindset to be my engine, which is hard.” Her vulnerability underscores the depth of her commitment and the immense pressure she experiences as a provider for her loved ones. Yet, Union strives to strike a balance between financial security and personal growth, seeking tranquility amidst the uncertainties that accompany her profession.
The journey towards building their family has not been without its challenges. Union has been open about her struggles with infertility, sharing her deeply personal and painful experiences in her memoir. She revealed enduring at least eight miscarriages and eight failed in vitro fertilization cycles before welcoming their precious daughter Kaavia into their lives via surrogacy in November 2018. Her resilience and willingness to share her journey have inspired countless individuals facing similar obstacles, fostering a sense of unity and support within the community.
Gabrielle Union’s candid revelations about her family’s financial arrangements and the ongoing quest for equilibrium offer a glimpse into the complexities of their lives. The couple’s commitment to sharing responsibilities equally underscores their dedication to each other and their children.
