In Nigeria, these days almost everywhere you look there is an abundance of women with fake booties and fake hips.
This has become even more predominant in Lagos state. It has become an “almost pandemic”.
What is this frenzy for women to look a certain way? What feeds it?
Despite the number of deaths that occur during procedures, some of which have gone viral, women are still trooping in, in their numbers to get themselves new bodies.
They risk their life and their health just to go through this plastic surgery and get a BBL.
In case you don’t know what a BBL is, it stands for a Brazilian Butt Lift. This is when you take away some fat from some parts of your body and inject into your booty to make it look bigger and rounder.
From my perspective, I think there are 2 major reason a lot of females in Lagos are resorting to a BBL procedure despite the obvious risks involved.
Insecurities
A lot of people are not happy with their bodies. This is known as body dysmorphia. This is a condition where you spend a lot of time obsessing negatively over your physical appearance.
Most times, the things you hate about your body goes unnoticed by other people around you. So many people with great bodies still resort to altering their bodies and undergoing a BBL procedure because of these insecurities which stem from their body dysmorphia.
This is only made worse too by the media’s representation of what a banging body should look like. The perfect figure which is known as the figure “8” looks a particular kind of way.
The structure of a figure 8 body comprises of a tiny waist, a big butt and an ample bosom. Because this has been set as the standard, so many women strive to look like that. When they don’t, they feel “imperfect” “ugly” and look for ways to change it.
Male Attention
It is no surprise that Nigerian men love a woman with a heavy back side. They are lovers of thicker bodies and some girls feel left out from the attention if they are not up to par in the booty department.
Most girls are able to attract any man of their choice by having the perfect figure 8 figures. This has given them an edge over other girls and breaded an unhealthy competition between Nigerian females.
They also receive monetary gifts all because of their physical appearance and this had only fueled females to want to alter their appearance so that they can also attract those monetary gifts.
