The Ship That Never Sailed (Kiddwaya And Erica) 

Big Brother Naija has done harm just as it has done well. We have had beautiful couples like Bam Bam and Teddy A who have two kids now, Khafi and Gedoni who have a son, Nini and Saga and amazing friendships like the likes of Laycon and Vee, Mercy and Diane, Liquorose and whitemoney and so many others.  

Ships have sailed and ships have sunk but what about the ones that didn’t sail at all? The ones that fans created and it didn’t work. The likes of Erica and Kiddwaya. 

Can we say they were ever in a relationship?

Where Did They Meet?

Erica and Kiddwaya were both housemates of the reality show BBNaija season 5 in 2020, and that’s where they officially met. The two had shared a kiss for the first time in the house after staying only a week. They made fans gush over them because they were both very handsome and beautiful.

Some went as far as to imagine what their babies would look like. 

Erica And Kiddwaya in Big Brother’s House

Kiddwaya was Erica’s love interest in the house and vice versa. At the beginning of the show, some of the housemates started to couple up, the likes of Praise and Katherine, Eric and Lilo and Erica and Kiddwaya. The other couples were discovered later.

Kidd and Erica were always seen together. Although Erica had other close friends in the house like TolaniBaj and Laycon, she was close to Kidd in a romantic way.

The fans of the two came together and formed the ultimate ship of season 5, Kiddrica. Whenever Erica won the head of house, she always chose Kidd to stay in the head of house room alone with her excluded from the others. She had said that she would be embarrassed by the things she had done in the room with Kiddwaya. She said it while speaking to Neo.

Erica revealed a secret to another housemate, Neo, that if they showed everything that happened in the Head of house room, she would be so embarrassed. When Neo asked about what she did with Kiddwaya in the room, she said she did everything. What else can be bigger than everything? 

Erica’s Fight For Kiddwaya

There was a time in the house when Erica fought with a fellow female housemate, Wathoni, a mother of one, because of Kiddwaya. She had gone to meet Wathoni to talk things through as she said she noticed that Wathoni was always rude to her. Recall that there was a point in the show where Wathoni had claimed to like Kidd and when they played the game Truth or Dare, Wathoni was asked to show a guy her underwear and she picked Kiddwaya. A few days after the incident, Erica approached her about being rude and they got into a fight as soon as Wathoni called Kiddwaya’s name. They exchanged words and Erica told the mother of one that she had a child but she doesn’t think like someone that has.

When everybody thought Erica went too far with the insult, Kiddrica fans continued to ship because Kiddwaya consoled her after the fight and told her he’ll always have her back.

He also said that they had to stick together because the other housemates hate them. During the fight, in the centre of the wahala, Kidd was busy minding his business and cooking in the kitchen.

There were periods when Kiddwaya made Erica cry because they found him with another girl. During one of the Saturday parties, Erica found Kidd having a conversation with Nengi. She didn’t hesitate to end the conversation. After the party, there were rumours carried by the housemates that Kidd and Nengi were in the bathroom together. We all know Erica had cried because her friend, TolaniBaj, had approached Kidd to tell him to stop treating Erica like trash. She said he should stop making her cry and that he is free to like any housemates but he should tell her instead of toying with his feelings. Kidd assured TolaniBaj that there was nothing between him and Nengi. 

Just as Erica confronted Wathoni, she went ahead to confront Nengi and it also did not go well. Erica told Nengi that she should let her know if she liked Kidd and Nengi replied to her with, ‘I knew Kidd before you, if I wanted him, I’ll have him’.

Erica’s Disqualification

In Big Brother Naija house, once you are issued three strikes, you are automatically evicted from the reality show. Erica who was already given two got into a fight with fellow housemate, Laycon who eventually won the season.

Laycon was in love with Erica and for some reason, he had spread a rumour that he and Erica kissed. Erica was definitely pissed so she went to confront him. In her confrontation, she threatened to cause harm and kill Laycon outside the reality show which is against the rules guiding the Big Brother Naija house. Big Brother didn’t hesitate to send her out of the house.

The Shippers (Kiddrica)

The pressure from fans can be so overwhelming. This is exactly how Erica felt after the show. Kiddrica Shippers are the fans who want Erica and Kiddwaya to continue their romantic relationship outside the house. There was a time when Erica addressed the fans who tried to get her personal information from her mother by using gifts as excuses. Erica did not sit well with it. She called out the fan base ‘Kiddrica’ and told them to stop it. She said the Frenemy fanbase.

They had Instagram pages, hashtags and probably group chat. They really wanted their ship to sail but unfortunately, it didn’t. 

Life After BBNaija

The two didn’t last 6 months after the reality show before splitting up. They were still together after the show but according to Kidd, they broke up after Erica heard a quote from Kidd’s interview. They were a popular couple so their relationship faced intense scrutiny from fans and the media. During a question and answer session with his fans, Kidd was asked what he meant when he told Punch in an interview that he didn’t have a love life. He responded by saying he didn’t want his relationship with Erica to be public.

Erica’s fans of course were not happy and he automatically became an enemy. Some went ahead to send messages to him to stop embarrassing Erica. 

Even after they broke up, the two remained friends. Shippers continued to ship and at some point, Erica got tired of it. She replied to one fan who shipped them together even way after their breakup. She said sometimes all that is needed is good friendship and it’s not every time there should be bad blood or a relationship. 

Many people had high hopes that the BBNaija couples will be in a serious relationship and would probably marry because Kiddwaya’s billionaire father, Terry Waya consented to their relationship and Erica also met Kidd’s mother, Susan. Unfortunately for the shippers, it didn’t work out.

The both of them are presently in a happy place, bagging deals and making money.
