Linda Ikeji’s Engagement – A Blessing or a Curse?

The sound of engagement is sweet in our ears and when the queen of blogging herself gets engaged, it becomes sweeter. Linda Ikeji has made a great success out of blogging before venturing into the media and television – a scene she seem prepared to conquer in a matter of months.

Regardless of her many successes, she continues to get flagged for being single at 37 years old. We are forced to ask, are we saying success in other areas without being married is failure?

Good news came strolling in yesterday night that the beautiful, successful and inspiring blogger is now engaged but reactions from a section of society shows that this engagement may be a curse than a blessing. Should Linda pay any attention to people and their expectations of her, her man and her relationship?

When she was single, we were on her case to get a man. Now, she has a man, we are measuring if the man measures up to ‘our’ standard. If Linda pays any slight attention to this, her happy engagement can simply be deemed a curse; because everything in that relationship or marriage must pass through the ‘Test of Societal Acceptance’. This is surely a faster way to a sad and unhappy love life.

For you who will not date that lady or man for no other reason but what people will say or think. For you who treats your marriage or love life like a project that needs to keep up with people’s approval. Take a cue from the above. There is nothing you do that society will accept totally. Find your own happiness that is based on your own standard, not the one society created for you.

Congratulations to Linda Ikeji and her man. We, at HappyLoveLife, hope to get an invite to cover the wedding.
