Kanu Nwankwo And Amara Kanu – 18 Years Of Love

Kanu Nwankwo is Nigeria’s most famous footballer and a member of the Nigerian National team. He is regarded as a National hero and has a legacy that will defintely outlive him.

The National champion has also proven that he is  very family oriented. He has been married for 18 years now to his stunning wife Amara Kano and they both share 3 beautiful children together.

Amara Kanu is a fitness enthusiast, a wellness coach and the creator of “Akhealthy” , an active wear designed to empower women.

Amara And Nwankwo Kanu’s Love Story- (Amara’s Perspective)

Amara during a rare interview with Pulse back in 2016 revealed that she got married at just 18.

While a majority of 18 year olds nowadays are navigating university life as freshets, Amara tied the knot with football hero Nwankwo Kanu.

She described the experience as a growth process for her to learn life lessons daily. She jumped into the deep end regardless of her fears and simply went for it.

She ascribed her decision to determination to keep going despite age.

“Marriage throws a lot of curves at you. The main thing is being able to bounce back after being hit with a surprise or what you do not expect.”

When asked if she harbored fears before getting married, she surprisingly revealed that she was not scared at the time and genuinely felt that it was the best thing that could have ever happened to her.

She says

“ I was in love, so there was no time for a negative feeling like fear to come up. I think the love I had and still have for my husband was all I needed to feel comfortable and good.”

Adjusting into the fame of getting married to a global superstar was a bit challenging for her to navigate. Prior to getting married to Kano Nwankwo, she knew nothing about football and did not fully grasp what she was getting g herself into.

When you’re in love, it’s hard to see things clearly or as they truly are. At the time, she was completely aware of the level of limelight and attention that will hit her fiercely at such a young age.

Today, the stunning wife, fitness fanatic and mother describes herself as a core football fan.

When asked how she navigates her privacy in such a public space, this was her response

“I try to keep my sanity, so that I can protect my family. I had to make a personal decision to stay private for a very long time in order to build what I have built for myself and my children. I understood this from a very young age.”

Amara Kanu has also expressed her reluctance for her own daughter to get married at such a young age.

She revealed that she would absolutely love for her daughter to experience life slightly more than she did since she got married really naive and innocent.

However, she was fortunate to get the support of her parents, friends and family in general.

“I had support from my mum, dad and siblings. In hindsight, I can say that they actually did a good job.“

As one of her last questions, Amara was asked if she could do things differently what are the things she would change, she stated that she would do everything the same way she had done.

“I don’t think I would want to do it differently. I think getting married early is my competitive advantage. I learnt real life and management skills in marriage. Even though I’m currently studying for an MBA, it can’t beat the real life experiences. I won’t change anything because it all worked for me.”

Amara and Kanu Nwankwo got married back in 2004, the duo have now been married for 18 years and very recently celebrated the 17th birthday of their first child.
