Who Is AY?

Ayodeji Richard Makun born on the 19th of August 1971 is a Nigerian Actor, Comedian, Movie director, Tv presenter and even a musician amongst others.

Garnering over 12 million followers on instagram, his powerful influence is undeniable. He is intentional about family and is married to his long term university love Mabel Makun.

Mabel Makun is  the CEO of Midas Interior design brand, she is also a trained business administrator and an entrepreneur.

How did these two lovebirds meet?

AY met his beautiful wife Mabel, way back in the university.

She was a student, just like him. He was also an event planner, combining his busy days with school work.

 

Mabel in am  interview months back, revealed that when AY saw her for the first time, he had tried to convince her to compete in one of the events he was planning, however, she had turned him down.

 

The pair started spending time together and eventually grew into each other and became close friends.

 

The both had a lot in common, both coming from humble backgrounds and also both losing their parents at young ages.

 

They became so close that naturally deep feelings started to develop between them.

The pair started dating officially in 2005.

They dated until 2008 when they decided to tie the knot.

 

A Wedding To Remember

Their wedding was a star studded one with big  names In attendance such as Richard Mofe Damijo (popularly known as RMD), Bovi, Lilian Esoro etc.

Bovi  served as his groomsman while Lilian served as Mabel’s maid of honor.

Mabel wore a simple fitted strapless gown while AY rocked a black suit.

Even though they went for minimalist looks, there was nothing basic about their wedding.

It was the celebrity wedding of the year in 2008.

 

A Little Family

AY and his wife Mabel welcomed their little daughter Michelle, barely a year after getting married. A decade would stretch out before they would have another kid.

From an outsider’s perspective, it is understandable to come up with different theories concerning this, however, behind closed doors, the pair were dealing with some of the most excruciatingly painful situations.

The pair had been trying for years to have other children but had consistently been greeted time and time again with failure.

Mabel revealed that she suffered d miscarriages over the years and had at one point comtemplated quitting her search for another child.

Luck shone its bright glare on her because last year, in a surprise instagram revelation, Nigerians found out that Mabel had put to bed and had given birth to little bundle of joy. They named her Ayomide.

The pictures of the adorable baby is yet to be released.

In a candid instagram post, talking about her fertility journey, Mabel wrote /

“This will definitely trigger my emotions, the plan was to close/open my eyes and make it all disappear but then again I thought to myself, Mabel you have to encourage someone out there.

Three miscarriages with no medical explanations as to the reasons why. It was the same pattern as before, every single thing that happened with the others, happened again, only this time more but I was determined to hold on tight to God and not fail.

Anal bleeding threatened miscarriage, difficulty in breathing, I wasn’t psychologically and mentally stable and that, was the hardest part for me, my emotions were all over the place, taking a deep breath in and out to stop myself every time I felt the urge to just break down and cry.

Struggling within not to blame myself for not protecting and fighting for the survival of the babies I lost, placenta separation, weak uterus.”

 

Controversies

While AY and Mabel Makun have managed to steer clear of most controversies, in 2017, AY was involved in a cheating scandal that made headlines in various media houses.

This scandal started after AY shared a picture of him and Freda Francis on the gram.

While this at first looked like a seemingly harmless post on Instagram, a furious Mabel reposted the picture on her page and sternly warned Freda to stay away from her husband and family.

She also proceeded to reveal private screenshot of conversations between AY and Freda, confirming the cheating rumors.

Then, there came the  rumors of Mabel moving out of the family home, but AY quickly debunked it.

In an Instagram post, he confirmed that his wife  had Indeed left the home but that was only because of a fumigation process currently going on.

The pair, judging from the pictures and public events attended together appeared to have settled all troubled waters and look good and happy together.

Conclusion

In the entertainment world, hearing separation and divorce terms used interchangeably in celebrity marriages is not a surprising feat.

They all attribute a chunk of their marital problems to pressure from the society especially living as a public figure.
