Adekunle Gold And Simi

From Solo Stars to a Shared Song

Adekunle Gold (born Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko on January 28, 1987, in Lagos) carved his musical path from humble beginnings. A graduate of Lagos State Polytechnic in Arts and Design, he first gained attention with the soulful highlife cover “Sade” in 2015. That track gave rise to his debut album Gold, which climbed the Billboard World Albums chart. Learning design and visual arts for Olamide’s YBNL Nation label before his own breakout, Adekunle eventually signed with Def Jam and released his fifth album, Tequila Ever After, in 2023, featuring global stars like Pharrell Williams, Khalid, and more.

Simi (Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye) started with gospel music, releasing her debut album Ogaju in 2008. She rose through Afropop and soul. Her track “Tiff” (2014) earned critical acclaim, and her 2017 album Simisola debuted in the top five on Billboard’s World Albums chart. She followed with Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 1 in 2019, released on her birthday, and in 2024, she dropped Lost and Found, her soulful fifth album under her label Studio Brat.

When Music Brought Hearts Together

Their story begins in 2014, with a Facebook message, unseen. Adekunle, a fan, messaged Simi, who admits it went unanswered. Months later, they met at one of her shows. Adekunle was charming; Simi says they didn’t become friends until later that year. Their bond grew through shared faith, music, and gentle companionship. She even helped mix tracks for his Gold album.

They quietly built their relationship for five years before tying the knot in January 2019. Their union was a celebration of mutual respect, faith, and artistry.
